Becoming a Christian
Salvation is a miracle which God wants to work in everyone. There are a few things though that we all must grasp in order to partake of this.
1. All have sinned
Romans 3 v 23: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Many believe they are a good person, that their sin is not as bad as others. 'I'm not a murderer or rapist. I only tell a few lies, I stole way back when. I give to charity, I go to church occasionally'. But no matter how big or how small your sin is in your eyes, it causes you to fall short of God's standard of righteousness. None of your own goodness can earn right standing with God.
2. Jesus died for sinners
Romans 5 v 8: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Whilst we were in sin, separated from God, He sent His Son Jesus to live the perfect life you and I could not live, then He died for our to pay for our sins. Only Jesus could fully satisfy the debt of sin.
3. You can choose a life of sin or life in Christ
Romans 6 v 23: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
You can choose to continue in sin which will lead to death, which speaks of an eternal death in hell or you can choose Jesus Christ who offers eternal life to those who trust in Him. Through Jesus you can make heaven your home.
4. Confess and believe
Romans 10 v 9: If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Through confessing Jesus as Lord, meaning you choose to turn away from sin and surrender to Him, through trusting in your heart that He's risen from the dead to seal your salvation, you can made right with God.
If you would like to pray to give your life to Jesus you can pray this prayer of repentance:
Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that You died for me and have risen from the dead, so that I could have eternal life. I turn away from my sins today and trust in You to save me. Forgive me, make me a new person and help me to follow You all the days of my life. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
